What we do and how we do it...

is unlike any other!

  • Paramedical Exam...

An examiner asks questions pertaining to your past and current medical history. This includes the names and addresses of any physicians you are seeing or have seen previously, any hospitalizations you have had and medications you are currently taking. It is helpful to have this information prior to your appointment.  In addition, your height, weight, and blood pressure will be measured. For the males we also take waist and chest measurements. (10-15 MINUTES)
  • MD exam...

The MD or physician exam is exactly like the paramedical exam with the exception that the physician does a physical examination.  (10-15 MINUTES)
  • Blood Draw...

Using a sterile technique, the examiner will draw 1-3 vials of blood from your vein totaling no more than 1-2 tablespoons. Fasting is usually required and most require 4 hours while some do require up to 12 hours fasting. You may however drink water. Most examiners are well seasoned and it is nice to let them know in advance that you prefer them to use a butterfly needle. (3-5 MINUTES)
  • Urine Collection...

In addition to blood, most insurance companies also require the examiner to collect a urine sample. If you have gone to the bathroom recently, inform the examiner and you will be instructed  to drink water.  Once you void into the sterile container the examiner records the temperature, and then pours the urine into the 2 collection tubes for testing. (1-2 MINUTES)
  • EKG/ECG...

An EKG is a record of your heart's electrical activity. Ten sensors are attached to your arms, legs, and chest around the heart area that "listen" to your heartbeat and make a wave pattern on graph paper.  While it is customary for the patient to be supine for an ideal EKG tracing, being seated is also acceptable, as sometimes it is the best position for the workplace. An EKG is completely painless. No electricity goes into your body and there is no chance of electrical shock. (7-10 MINUTES)
  • TVC/Peak Flow...

Timed Vital Capacity or spirometry is the most common of the pulmonary function tests, measuring the amount (volume) and speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. You are asked to take a deep breath and then exhale into the sensor as hard as possible, for as long as possible. This process is then repeated and recorded. (3-5 minutes)
  • Stress EKG/Treadmill...

This is used to identify coronary artery disease or blocked arteries. It requires you to walk on a treadmill for a short period of time while connected to an ECG machine.  Your symptoms and blood pressure response are checked and recorded repeatedly. (10-15 MINUTES)
